DuoDay

DuoDay is a unique initiative because it offers
many benefits to supported employment
agencies, job seekers and employers.

DuoDay brings together disabled people, supported employment agencies and local employers for one day to promote equal employment opportunities across Europe. It highlights the positive contributions disabled people make at work.

DuoDay 2024 took place on Thursday 21st November.

All kinds of employers, businesses and organisations took part, of all sizes, in the private, public or non-profit sector from Shetland to the Borders. DuoDay provides the opportunity to gain an insight into the world of work by shadowing an employee as they go about their normal working routine.

Employers can challenge negative stereotypes, show a commitment to diversity and equality and demonstrate how barriers to inclusion can be overcome. You get access to a pool of potential employees and opportunities to network. You get to promote their business in the media and be a champion of social justice in your community.

Job seekers have the opportunity to gain insight into a business or role and learn more about the world of work and employers’ expectations. They explore new opportunities which were perhaps previously unavailable to them.

Supported Employment service providers have the chance to promote your service to employers and job seekers. You also get to promote your service and gain an insight into a particular career area.

Why is DuoDay important?

It’s a day to promote the equal employment opportunities in our workplaces but for the people who take part it can be so much more…
  • “DuoDay helped me gain more confidence in a workplace setting.”
  • “I enjoyed it a lot, I was able to take part in different jobs and see what I could be good at”
  • “We got a guided tour of a community garden and I have since started volunteering there, which I probably wouldn’t have done otherwise”
  • “The only thing I didn’t like was the placement wasn’t long enough!”

We are looking for employers from across Scotland who would like to participate in DuoDay by offering a 1-day work taster. The taster would involve job shadowing which gives the young person/people a taste of what’s involved in a job they may be interested in. If you would like to find out more please email us at info@susescotland.scot
