Sensory Campaign
SUSE are delighted to be working with our colleagues at Alliance Scotland, Sight Scotland, The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) to develop a new Sensory campaign.
As of 2018, an estimated 35,800 working age Scots (16-64) are living with sight loss and, across the UK, only 27% of blind or partially sighted individuals of working age are in employment. It is also estimated that 1 in 5 Scots experience hearing loss. Despite the significant number of people in Scotland who are deaf or experience hearing loss and are blind or experience sight loss, there has been a reduction in employment services that specifically meet their needs.
We are coming together to change this and will be embarking upon a new campaign to create more and better opportunities for people who want support to enter the workforce. Having already met to decide on our approach, in September 2021 we began the planning stage of a new campaign to raise awareness of the need for employment services specifically for those living with sight or hearing loss. The Chair of the SUSE Board will be leading this project as we work towards identifying goals, objectives and outcomes. We will be posting regular updates here as we progress towards a finalised campaign structure.
