DuoDay success: Challenging perceptions and empowering potential

One of our new members in 2024, Passion4Social took part in their first DuoDay in November and they offered a different kind of job shadow experience!

A first for DuoDay, Thiago and the team offered fully online placements. There are many benefits to online work placements, such as developing digital communication skills, allowing for flexible schedules, preparing candidates for hybrid roles and the removal of geographical barriers, to name just a few!

Here’s what Passion4Social had to say about DuoDay 2024…

We’re thrilled to share the success of our recent DuoDay experience, reinforcing our belief in the immense value of inclusive employment practices!

DuoDay, a pan-European initiative championed in Scotland by SUSE, actively challenges stereotypes about disabled individuals in the workplace, showcasing their significant contributions to businesses and the wider economy.

We were delighted to welcome Ian to our team for Passion4Social’s participation in DuoDay.  Ian shadowed our Outreach Coordinator, Karalyn Becker, gaining firsthand insight into the role’s diverse responsibilities.

Their day encompassed researching stakeholders, partners and potential clients, analysing organisational needs, and crafting personalised engagement strategies and omnichannel tactics for building and sustaining relationships with prospects.

This practical experience provided Ian with valuable exposure to the world of outreach and engagement. It underscored the power of work placements in offering fresh perspectives and fostering a more inclusive work environment.

Ian’s enthusiastic feedback at the end of the day emphasised how much he enjoyed the experience. He particularly appreciated the opportunity to refine his skills and learn new things, including an understanding of the role of outreach which has ignited his interest in pursuing similar opportunities in the future.

Ian’s positive experience with DuoDay mirrors our vision for a future where everyone’s potential is recognised, nurtured, and fully realised. Work placements offer invaluable benefits for businesses, providing fresh perspectives and insights into various roles.

In a broader sense, this is also a fabulous platform where we can challenge misguided assumptions and demonstrate that, given the right support, people with disabilities can achieve everything in business that their non-disabled colleagues do.

We are incredibly grateful to Ian for joining us and the Scottish Union of Supported Employment for facilitating this important initiative. By embracing initiatives like DuoDay, we can collectively create a more inclusive and equitable work environment, unlocking the vast potential that lies within every individual.
