Momentum Works is an employment and wellbeing peer support service for people in Scotland who are living with bipolar. It focuses on supporting people who are navigating work or study, particularly those preparing to return to employment/education or managing workplace challenges.

The project provides tailored one-to-one support delivered by trained peer workers and volunteers with lived experience of bipolar, helping individuals develop practical strategies to stay well at work, advocate for reasonable adjustments, and build confidence in sustainable employment and/or education.

What makes this approach distinctive is the peer support model within an employment context. While many services focus either on clinical support or traditional employment provision, there are comparatively very few initiatives that combine lived experience with employment support. Momentum Works bridges this gap by offering practical, person-centred support grounded in real-world understanding of balancing mental health and work. Support is flexible and designed to complement existing provision.

The peer-led model creates a space where individuals feel understood and empowered, often enabling conversations and progress that can be harder to achieve through traditional approaches alone.

The service offers both short-term structured support (up to three months of one-to-one sessions) and flexible one-off appointments, allowing people to access help at key transition points such as returning to work after absence, managing workplace difficulties, or planning next steps in education or employment. The overarching aim is to support people to move forward without feeling limited by their diagnosis, while promoting long-term wellbeing and sustainable engagement in work or study.

Support is available across the entirety of Scotland and is delivered via phone or video call. To sign up or for more info, please visit our website- Momentum Works – Bipolar Scotland
